I look at a lot of business websites during consultations, and I'd say half of them are actively costing their owners money.
A lot of business owners built their site five or six years ago and haven't touched it since. The problem is that Google has completely changed how it ranks sites, and your customers are browsing on phones now — not desktops. An old site doesn't just look dated, it pushes people to your competitors.
Here are five signs it's time for a new one.
1. It Takes More Than 3 Seconds to Load
Google's own data shows that 53% of mobile visitors leave if a page takes longer than 3 seconds to load. That's more than half your potential customers gone before they even see what you offer.
Test it yourself: Go to PageSpeed Insights and enter your URL. If your mobile score is below 50, you have a serious problem.
Common culprits: oversized images, bloated WordPress plugins, cheap shared hosting, and outdated code.
2. It Doesn't Look Right on Phones
More than 60% of all web traffic comes from mobile devices. In Miami, that number is even higher — people are searching for local businesses on their phones while they're out.
Open your website on your phone right now. If you have to pinch to zoom, if text overlaps, if buttons are too small to tap, or if images are cut off — you're losing mobile customers.
A modern website is built mobile-first, meaning it's designed for phones and tablets before desktop.
3. You Can't Find Yourself on Google
Search for your business name. Search for your service + your city (like "plumber Miami" or "web design Miami"). If you're not on the first page, your website isn't doing its job.
A well-built website with proper SEO fundamentals — page titles, meta descriptions, heading structure, local schema markup, fast load times — gives you a fighting chance to rank.
An old website built on outdated technology often has structural SEO problems that no amount of content can fix.
4. It Doesn't Generate Any Leads
If you can't remember the last time someone contacted you through your website, something is broken. A business website should actively generate leads through:
- Clear calls to action on every page ("Get a Free Quote," "Book a Consultation")
- Contact forms that are easy to find and easy to fill out
- Phone numbers that are clickable on mobile
- Trust signals — testimonials, reviews, certifications, real photos
If your site doesn't make it obvious what someone should do next — call you, fill out a form, book an appointment — people will just leave.
5. You're Embarrassed to Share It
This one is subjective, but it matters. If a potential client asks for your website and you hesitate before sharing the link, that tells you everything.
Your website is often the first impression someone has of your business. If it looks outdated, unprofessional, or generic, that's the impression they'll have of your work too.
Compare your site to your top competitors. If theirs look noticeably more modern and professional, it's time for a new site.
What to Do About It
A redesign is simpler than most people expect — we've done it enough times to have the process down. Most of the Miami businesses we've rebuilt sites for were live within 2-4 weeks.
The process is straightforward:
- Tell us about your business — what you do, who you serve, what's not working
- We'll assess your current site and identify the biggest opportunities
- We'll build something better — custom designed, mobile-first, built to convert
Most business websites are completed in 2-4 weeks. And you don't need to know anything about technology — that's our job.
